Our Arborist Roots Run Deep in Massachusetts
Our heritage is a proud one. Our story began more than 100 years ago, in 1896, when Frost and Higgins established their firm in Arlington, Massachusetts. They were early pioneers in arboriculture and helped develop many of the practices still in use today.
Known throughout the East Coast, the company was instrumental in organizing the International Shade Tree Conference (the predecessor of the International Society of Arboriculture), the National Arborist Association (the predecessor of the Tree Care Industry Association), and was one of the charter members of the Associated Landscape Contractors of America.
Over the years, Frost and Higgins was privileged to landscape well-known buildings including Washington D.C.'s Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Union Square and Soldiers Home. They were also involved in both New York World Fairs.
Our Western Massachusetts office at 50 Cooke Avenue in Northampton was established in 1962. In 1986, nearly a hundred years after the company's founding, employee Christopher L. Frank purchased the Northampton office and is proud to carry on the long tradition of industry leadership and the highest quality service.
In 2004, C.L. Frank & Company was honored as the first Tree Care Industry Association Accredited Company in Massachusetts, and was only the second company accredited in the entire nation. In addition, two of our staff are among the very first 70 Certified Tree Care Safety Specialists (CTSP).
We have worked hard to attain this level of achievement and are extremely proud. We also constantly remind ourselves that we didn't do this ourselves but with the help and hard work of a lot of folks that went before us. We intend to remain the leading arborists in Western Massachusetts. We will continue to offer quality workmanship and excellent service, with individualized attention to every customer's needs.
In 2018, upon Chris Frank’s retirement, C.L. Frank & Company became a Division of Bartlett Tree Experts. Originally established in 1907 as Frost & Bartlett, Bartlett Tree Experts actually shares a co-founder (H.L. Frost) with the original Frost and Higgins. Today, we remain as committed as ever to upholding the proud heritage of both companies.
